Habit

Today’s word of the day is HABIT.   Habit is defined as an acquired mode of behavior that has become nearly or completely involuntary.   On this second day of the new year, how many things do you do out of habit?  How many things should you quit doing out of habit?   On the hardest habits to quit is smoking.  I am proud to say that I quit smoking over 10 years ago.  It was difficult and I failed many times.  I will always want to smoke but I just don’t.   Now, I will make a habit of putting my phone in my purse or console when I drive.  It’s too easy to look at it if it accessible.    Good luck!    What habit will you start or break today?    1/2…

Resolute

Today’s word of inspiration is RESOLUTE.  Today is the start of a new year and many people make resolutions.  Some are kept, many are not.  The definition of resolute is 1) marked by firm determination, 2) bold, steady.   I challenge you to make a resolution for the new year, and be firm about keeping it. My resolutions are: 1) never text while driving, and 2) reduce the amount of time I am attached to the electronic leash AKA my phone.  I want to spend more time living life in the open world, here and now, present with friends and experiences.  I want to spend less time in an electronic world. Happy New Year.   1/1/18…

The Magic of Santa

The magic of Santa Claus is one of the most famous and long-standing tradition’s in the world.  It is refreshing that even as the world has dramatically changed, our respect for the belief in Santa has remained unchanged. Santa Claus is also known as Kris Kringle, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nick, Father Christmas and most often simply as Santa. Santa is believed to bring gifts to the homes of “good” and “nice” children on Christmas Eve or Christmas day.  If you have been “bad”, you may receive a lump of coal in your stocking. My favorite gift from Santa is easy –  1969 Mattel Baby Go Bye Bye with Bumper Car and white go-go boots. What is your favorite gift from Santa? As a parent, the…

Sick to My Soul

To quote Pastor Cline after the Las Vegas shootings “I am sick to my soul”.   A church, movie theater, school, concert – these places should be safe, sacred, and protected.  I refuse to believe that these behaviors are becoming “the new normal”  These act of hatred are not normal and never will be.  They are horrific. They are inexcusable. They are unforgettable. Yesterday the largest mass shooting in Texas’ history took place. A 26-year old man began shooting from outside Sutherland Springs’ First Baptist Church church.  As of this writing, there are 26 dead and more than 20 injured. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. My heart goes out to the survivors and their difficult journey to recovery. My heart goes out to the…

Life Is About Timing

Life is about timing – expected or unexpected, for better or for worse, like it or not.  I know that everything happens for a reason.  It may take more time than I’d like to understand why.  Some things I may simply never understand.  Such is life. “If its meant to happen it will.  At the right time for the right reasons.”  – unknown  Merriam-Webster defines timing as: 1 a :placement or occurrence in time, b :the ability to select the precise moment for doing something for optimum effect.  Personally, I choose to think of timing as the lines drawn on the road in this journey called life. Here is an example of when timing was great.  I was a 19-year-old receptionist at The Production Company.  I came back…

Proud to be a Geek

Yes, I am a geek and I am proud of it.  There I said it! Last week my friend Brad teased me because I was studying for my upcoming fantasy football drafts. He said I was a fantasy geek. I said there is a big difference in fantasy football champion and fantasy football geek.  He said geek. I admit that I was slightly offended and uncomfortable with the term.  The more I thought of it, yes, I am a geek.   If GEEK stands for Gives Everything Excels Keeper, then yes I am a geek.     I was surprised when I searched for the term geek how many different images and quotes came up. It seems I am not the only one who has a change of attitude about the word. “The word ‘geek&#8217…
